After a long wait, Xiaomi has finally released the list of smartphones that it will either be upgrading to Nougat or are already running the current Android version based on the latest MIUI 9. The official list from the Chinese tech unicorn comprises a total of 14 smartphones which mostly include recently announced ones.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 and Mi Max 2 are only two phones from the brand which currently runs Android 7.1 Nougat as they run it out of the box. Other devices which will be upgraded to the same version are Xiaomi Mi 5c and Redmi 4X where the latter one is available in India as simply the Redmi 4.

All other remaining 10 Xiaomi smartphones will be receiving an upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat. These are Mi Max, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi Note, Mi Note 2, Mi MIX, and Redmi Note 4X launched as the Redmi Note 4 in India.

While Xiaomi has not mentioned specifically, many other devices from the company might still receive an upgrade to MIUI 9 but based on older Android versions like Lollipop and Marshmallow. We have seen it following this path in the past where it upgrades a small number of devices to latest Android version while others simply receive the update in terms of MIUI skin upgrade. It means even if your device is not on the Nougat update list, you can still expect a number of new features and other performance related improvements in the future.

Xiaomi is a well-known Chinese smartphone brand with a strong presence in India. It enjoys a significant share of the Indian smartphone market, especially in entry-level and mid-range categories. While it offers great offerings with impressive specifications for a cheaper price, it has been one of the unreliable OEMs when it comes to releasing latest Android version on time for users. And even though Google is currently beta testing Android O, it is good to know that Xiaomi has started work on rolling out the Nougat version.
