Xiaomi has finally kicked off the Mi A1 Android Oreo beta program by inviting applications for beta testers. It posted about the program and other details on the official MIUI Forums earlier today. This gives the hint that it is likely to deliver on the promise of releasing Oreo update for the Mi A1 before the end of the year.

As per the thread, anyone who is a Mi A1 user is eligible to apply for the beta testing program. It means you can send your application regardless of your geographical location. The application process requires you to install the official MIUI Forums app and use it to submit a few details. These details include submitting IMEI numbers (for both SIM slots) and mentioning the reason why do you want to join the program. Once you do this, all you need to do is to sit back and hope that Xiaomi’s software team selects you. If it does, you will receive a personal message from the team on the forum which will include further details. The last date for submitting the application is 23:59 (Beijing time), December 11th, 2017.

You can click the source link below to know more about the program and get started with submitting your application. But do keep in mind that it will be a beta release which means there is always a higher possibility of you running into performance issues like random app crashes and reboots among others.

Here is a quick preview of Mi A1 Android Oreo update shared by the team:

As you can see in the screenshot, the M1 A1 can be seen running Android 8.0 Oreo which also makes sense considering that Google released stable Android 8.1 Oreo only today. While Xiaomi can surely choose to go ahead and release the latest version, it is quite likely that it will settle with Android 8.0.

But regardless of which Oreo version lands on this Android One device, it is good to see that Xiaomi is actually working towards keeping up the promise of regular and faster updates. After all, that was the whole point of launching the Mi A1.
