Xiaomi has finally confirmed the launch date for the much-awaited MIUI 9 which will be the latest iteration of its custom Android skin MIUI and will be based on Android Nougat. It will be revealed next week on July 26 at an event in Beijing, China where it will also announce a new smartphone named Mi 5X. This is in line with the previous announcement where Xiaomi assured that the next MIUI version will be unveiled on or before August 16.

The latest announcement was made by Xiaomi via social media as well as a dedicated thread on the official MIUI forum. It did not reveal too many details regarding the upcoming major release but listed a few highlights including redesigned lock screen shortcut, split-screen mode, removal of rarely used features, and the addition of three new themes. It is worth mentioning once MIUI 9 becomes available, it will be released to users in batches which mean all users with an eligible Xiaomi device will not be receiving the update at once. The team says this decision has been taken to ensure that users get stable and smooth user experience along with better battery life with the last software. It has even started to accept applications from interested users in becoming beta testers for the MIUI 9 China ROM.

As for the smartphone Xiaomi Mi 5X itself, it will be featuring the dual rear camera setup as shown in the launch event poster shared by the company. The image also features the popular Chinese actor Kris Wu who can be seen holding the smartphone. It will be launched on the same day as MIUI 9 and will be running the latest software out of the box.

But thanks to a previous leak, we do have an idea of what to expect from the Mi 5X. It is said to feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and 4GB of RAM. The smartphone is reported to be made available in Gold, Rose Gold, and Black color options.
