The much rumored and highly anticipate Pepsi smartphone is finally official. The smartphone, Pepsi Phone P1 is currently available on the Chinese website JD.com and seeking crowdfunding. The smartphone will be manufactured by Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment while PepsiCo is only licensing its brand name to it. The phone is available in two variants: standard variant known as the Pepsi Phone P1 and a China Unicom variant known as the Pepsi Phone P1s.
The specifications of the smartphone are quite in line with what rumored earlier. It is a mid-range device with a metallic build. The Pepsi Phone P1 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 2.5D curved glass. Under the hood, it has an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 chipset clocked at 1.7GHz and coupled with 2GB of RAM. As for handling graphics, it comes with Mali 450-MP4 GPU. The phone has a 13MP camera with LED flash at the back and a 5MP camera at the front. The whole package is powered by a 3000mAh battery and it will ship with dido OS 6.1 based on Android Lollipop 5.1.
The other features of the Pepsi Phone P1 include a fingerprint scanner, 4G LTE support, and Bluetooth v4.0. It has dimensions 152.2×76.2×7.7mm and weighs 158 grams. The phone will be available in Blue, Gold, and Silver colors.
The Pepsi Phone P1 is available only in China as of now and there is no whether Pepsi will do a global launch. It is priced at 1299 Yuan (about INR 13,444/$203), but since it is currently seeking crowdfunding hence there are a bunch of offers for the early backers. You can get it for 699 Yuan (about INR 7,234/$109) or 999 Yuan (about INR 10,139/$156), but the offer is valid only for first 1000 backers each. There was a 499 Yuan (about INR 5,164/$78) offer as well for first 1000 backers and it is sold out now.
PepsiCo has set a goal of 3,000,000 Yuan. It has collected 584,875 Yuan so far and the last date of the project is December 3.
