MobiKwik has launched a lite version of its mobile wallet app called MobiKwik Lite. As you would expect, the app is aimed at users from rural areas and the ones who rely on slow 2G internet connections.

The MobiKwik Lite app is currently available for Android and weighs less than 1MB. It means it can be downloaded within no time by giving a missed call to 8097180971. And to make it easier for users to register, the app makes use of the mobile number with no need of having an email address. Once the mobile number is added, it sends an OTP which needs to be entered to complete the registration process.

As the app is focused on rural area users, it features support for Hindi and English languages. While the language is asked to choose when the app is launched for the first time, it can also be selected from app settings.

MobiKwik Lite app can be used for various purposes like receiving payments, bill payments, recharges, bank transfers, and P2P transfers. Additionally, there will be no bank transfer fee until March 31, 2017.

Bipin Preet Singh, MobiKwik’s co-founder said,

“Majority of Indians do not have access to digital payments due to connectivity issues. With 250 million smartphones and less than 50 percent net penetration, India is highly underserved and the adverse impact of this reality is being observed by masses given the recent demonetisation. To bridge the gap between India and Bharat, we have launched MobiKwik ‘Lite’. By end of this week, the app will be available in all major Indian languages and soon, MobiKwik Lite will work without any net connectivity too, therefore addressing all the challenges being faced by masses in accessing wallet payments, be it language, connectivity or quality of smartphones.”
