Earlier today, Lenovo launched its latest smartphone Lenovo Vibe S1 in India. The phone is priced at Rs. 15,999 and will go on sale exclusively via Amazon India from today midnight. The pricing of the phone puts it in a direct competitor with the recently launched OnePlus X (Onyx variant). The OnePlus smartphone is priced at Rs. 16,999 and is also available through Amazon. So, let’s how these two smartphones fare against each other.

1. Design:

Both the Lenovo Vibe S1 and OnePlus X features a metallic frame with glass on the front as well as back. It means both the smartphones are a fingerprint magnet and slippery. The main difference between both the phones is on the back side. The Vibe S1 has a curved design like you might have seen in Motorola devices, while, the OnePlus X has a flat back. If you will place both the phone side-by-side, you will notice that the Vibe S1 is taller and thicker. However, when we talk about the weight, the Vibe S1 is lighter than the OnePlus X.

Both of them have the volume rocker and the power button on the right. The OnePlus X has the extra Alert Slider button on the left side. As for the buttons for recent, home, and back; the Vibe S1 has only physical buttons which, unfortunately, are not backlit. However, OnePlus X offers you physical as well as on-screen buttons. They also feature a dual hybrid SIM slot which means you can use the phone with either two SIM cards or one SIM and one microSD card.

All-in-all, both the Lenovo Vibe S1 and OnePlus X have a premium and stunning design. You will definitely love to flaunt both the phones in the crowd. However in my opinion, the curved back design of the Vibe S1 makes it little easier to grip and hold.

2. Display:

Both the Lenovo Vibe S1 and OnePlus X has a 5-inch Full HD (1080p) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a pixel density of about 441ppi. The only difference is that the Vibe S1 sports an IPS LCD panel and the OnePlus X features an AMOLED panel.

We know that both the display panels have their own pros and cons, so basically, it comes to one’s personal preference whether you like IPS or AMOLED panel. If you ask me, I will definitely go for an AMOLED panel because I like the displays to brighter and colors to pop out more.

3. Performance:

Starting with the Lenovo Vibe S1, the phone has a 64-bit octa-core (Cortex A53 cores) MediaTek MT6752 chipset clocked at 1.7GHz coupled with 3GB RAM. It has Mali-T760MP2 GPU for handling gaming and other graphic related things. It comes with 32GB of internal and a 2500mAh battery.

On the other hand, the OnePlus X comes with a 32-bit quad-core (Krait 400 cores) Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz coupled with 3GB RAM. As for graphics, it features Adreno 330 GPU. It offers 16GB of internal storage and a 2525mAh battery.

The performance of both the phones is quite similar along with small size battery. However, the Vibe S1 has an edge when it comes to the internal storage.

Note: Both the phone supports microSD card up to 128GB.

4. Camera:

The camera is the department where both the smartphones differentiate. While both the Vibe S1 and the OnePlus X have a 13MP rear camera, the things change when we talk about the front camera. The OnePlus X comes with an 8MP front shooter and the Vibe S1 comes with two front cameras of 8MP and 2MP. It is the worlds’ first smartphone to come with the twin front-facing cameras.

The combination of dual-camera setup with the phone’s software helps the Vibe S1 to provide a lot of features which OnePlus X can not. For example, you can change the focus in the photo even after clicking it, you can take a selfie and then cut any part of the photo to paste it on any other background, and the ability to add blur effects. So if you are a selfie lover, then you may like the Vibe S1 better than the OnePlus X.

5. Software:

The Vibe S1 runs on Vibe UI based on Android Lollipop v5.0 and the OnePlus X runs on OxygenOS based on Android Lollipop v5.1.1. While the Vibe UI provides you with a lot of gesture, customization features, and bloatware, the OxygenOS provides an almost stock Android experience. In the end, it comes to you what type of experience do you prefer the most.

Both the Lenovo Vibe S1 and OnePlus X are quite similar in their offerings as well as in the looks. The Vibe S1 has an edge in the camera department, but OnePlus X gives you an almost stock Android experience with next to zero bloatware. The difference between the pricing of both the phones is only Rs. 1,000, but OnePlus X has its Invite System in place which might prevent you from getting one easily. However, OnePlus has said that would start one-hour open sales on the weekly basis for the device starting next month.

So, if you don’t want to go through the waiting period and want a new phone at the earliest, then simply go for the Lenovo Vibe S1. On the other hand, if you can wait, then as I said both the phones are quite similar, so you will have to take the final call based on what features matter to you the most.
