WhatsApp beta has received another update which bumps up the version number to 2.17.311 but most importantly, it re-enables the photo filters feature. It means you can now use the latest WhatsApp beta to apply a bunch of basic filters to photos before sharing them with your friends in individual or group conversations.
There is a total of five photo filters available at the moment named as Pop, B&W, Cool, Chrome, and Film. The process of using them is fairly straight forward as all the steps are same as for sharing any image on WhatsApp. Once you will reach the interface where you get the option to add a caption, you will see a new option “Swipe up for filters”. Swiping up on the interface will show you those aforementioned photo filters. You can swipe right/left to browse all filters and tap on them to preview the photo. If you don’t like any of the filters, simply tap “None” option to send the original photo.
WhatsApp initially released photo filters in beta with version 2.17.297 but they were taken down soon after. I updated the app to the current beta version 2.17.311 about 14 hours ago and stumbled upon the filters only minutes ago. This seems to be a good enough time interval to believe that WhatsApp will not be removing filters now unless something completely unexpected is encountered by the team.
