Google has become the latest player to enter the digital payment market in India with the release of its own app named Tez. It is a mobile payment as well as wallet app aimed at Indian users with features to transfer money to any bank account or to send/receive money from friends and family.
Google Tez is a UPI-based mobile payment app which means a user is not required to have a NFC-enabled smartphone for using it. It further means that the app is compatible with over 50 banks which support the UPI standard including the likes of Axis Bank, HDFC, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and more. Once you have linked your bank account with the app, you are good to go.
Talking about the security aspect, Google said that the Tez app features Tez Shield functionality which helps in verifying your identity and protect against fraud and hacking. And like any other UPI-based app, it also asks for UPI PIN before authenticating any transaction.
Google Tez also has a Cash Mode which allows users to send or receive money from family or friends nearby. This method works without the user having the need of sharing his personal or bank account details with the receiver. All you need to do is to be nearby the other Tez user and enter the Cash Mode. It will ask you to enter your UPI PIN and that’s it, the payment will be transferred to the recipient instantly. And as the app is aimed at Indian users, it comes with support for various Indian languages including English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.
