Asus has officially launched the ZenFone AR smartphone in India at an event held earlier today. It is the world’s first smartphone to feature support for Google’s Daydream platform meant for virtual reality (VR) and Tango platform meant for augmented reality (AR). It made its debut earlier this year at CES 2017 event and eventually expanded to different countries before its arrival in India today.
As mentioned above, the USP of the Asus ZenFone AR is its capabilities related to offering immersive experience related to both VR and AR content. It is loaded with a bunch of cameras and sensors to sense and analyze its surroundings which help in delivering best possible AR and VR experiences on a smartphone. Other than this, it also happens to be world’s first smartphone to pack 8GB of RAM. Even though the phone has a 6GB RAM variant as well, it has not been made available in the country.
The ZenFone AR sports a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Under the hood, it has the 2.34GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM. There is a 23-megapixel rear shooter with Sony IMX318 sensor, f/2.0 aperture and TriTech Focus System which basically comprises of dual phase detection autofocus, laser autofocus, and continuous autofocus. As for taking selfies, it offers an 8-megapixel front shooter with 85-degree wide-angle lens and f/2.0 aperture.
The smartphone comes with 128GB of internal storage with support for microSD card expansion up to 2TB. The whole package is powered by a 3300mAh with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging and ships with Android Nougat 7.1.1. Each unit will be shipped with Asus ZenEar S earphones which are said to feature DTS Headphone:X and Hi-Res Audio support.
The Asus ZenFone AR has been priced at Rs. 49,999 and is available exclusively via Flipkart. The online retailer is also offering a discount of Rs. 2500 on the Daydream View VR headset if bought alongside the smartphone.
